The Winefully cellar in Bergamo
Wine Culture — Gossip Wine

Bergamo, November 2021. Updated October 2026.

Buying wine online has become normal. Buying it well has not. Product sheets are often vague, the bottle's journey is unknown, storage is invisible. For a 20-euro wine it hardly matters; for a rare bottle or a large format it matters entirely. Winefully, in Bergamo, was built to solve exactly that.

The case

Founded by Marcello Russo, Winefully sells fine wines and limited productions, often in special formats. The difference is that behind the e-commerce there is a physical place: a 19th-century cellar on Via Nazario Sauro, where the bottles are stored and can be seen.

When we visited in 2021, the offer went beyond the shelf: themed tasting evenings, meetings with producers, advice from specialists in the cellar. Today, in 2026, the site still has the shop, a Winefully Club and a wine magazine.

Why it works

  • Trust you can see. In a market where provenance is the main doubt, a historic cellar you can visit answers the question before it is asked.
  • Online and offline reinforce each other. The website sells; the cellar convinces. Someone who has been to a tasting comes back to buy online knowing who is on the other side.
  • Education is part of the service. Meeting the producer and tasting before buying turn a purchase into a relationship.
  • The club creates continuity. A community gives people a reason to return that does not depend on discounts.

What could improve

On the website's home page today, cellar tastings do not appear. For an international customer they should be up front and bookable online, in English, with clear dates. This is where many fine wine shops lose the visitor who would be happy to spend.

Worth remembering

When you sell something precious at a distance, the customer first buys your credibility, then the bottle. Make it visible: a place, a person, storage that can be checked.
