Exploring the Treasures of Soave with Suavia: “I Luoghi”

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, I want to draw your attention to a unique experience in the world of wine: “I Luoghi” presented by Suavia, a project that embodies the soul and belonging to the Soave territory.

Soave has always been considered an excellence in Veneto’s wine production. Its vibrant essence, which transmits the energy of volcanic soil, translates into recognizable minerality and savoriness from the first sip.

The complexity of this wine is evident in the typically volcanic terrain, which offers optimal and complex conditions for viticulture. But fully understanding this territory is by no means simple.

Soave extends over a vast territory, which can offer different shades of aromatic profiles. Producers, now considered true artisans, explore the different facets of this wine to fully grasp its potential, in perfect symbiosis with the terroir.

Suavia’s Garganega grapes, nestled in the eastern hills, represent an authentic guardian and leave an imprint of innovation on the territory. Founded in the heart of the Soave Classico area by the Tessari family, Suavia today stands out for its deep connection with the territory and its continuous pursuit of excellence.

Three Terroirs, Three Sisters

The three Tessari sisters, Meri, Alessandra, and Valentina, inherited this passion and joined forces to create a new chapter in Suavia’s history. Guided by a sense of responsibility and a desire to valorize the native grapes of the territory, the Tessari sisters launched “I Luoghi.”

“Gathering this heritage was natural for us, and once grown up, we embarked on this venture: creating a new company, giving a clear identity to our grapes. We are driven by a sense of responsibility and with the desire to contribute, supporting our parents. We entered the company specializing differently in this sector, with the goal of modernizing it.” – Meri Tessari

“I Luoghi” represents an ambitious project that synthesizes the typical characteristics of each plot of land. Castellaro, Fittà, and Tremenalto are the three expressions of a unique territory, enclosed in a limited edition of 2,000 bottles.

The search to identify the peculiarities of each place was guided by the experience of soil scientist Professor Giuseppe Benciolini and winemaker Valentina Tessari, revealing the unique characteristics of each terroir.

The tasting of “I Luoghi” comes to life from three small plots owned by Suavia, located in the heart of the Soave territory. Garganega grapes, vinified separately but with the same rigor, give expressive and distinctive wines.

The tasting

The places come to life from three small plots owned by the company located right in the heart of the Soave places from which very expressive grapes are always obtained. To create the 2,000 references, Garganega grapes were vinified separately but in the same way.

The fermentation lasted 14 days in a stainless steel tank, followed by 12 months of maturation and finalized with 24 months of bottle aging.

Fittà

Vintage: 2020

This is an ancient one-hectare vineyard jealously guarded by the Tessari family. The vines are on average 70 years old. During this journey of exploring the territory, it was found that the soil reserves different layers – the first evolved and structured, the second instead reflects the arrangement of the slope and shows within it a great variety of altered basaltic rocks.

Tasting notes
It wears a clear and bright straw yellow color.
On the nose, there’s a precise note of citrus, grapefruit, characterized by a healthy rusticity, with sulfurous notes present.
On the palate, it is distinguished by its minerality, thanks to its pronounced acidity and pleasant crispness followed by a long sip.

Castellaro

Vintage: 2020

The altitudes here range from 200 to 220 meters above sea level, extending over 3600 meters. The Castellaro vineyard was planted in 1970, has moderately deep soil, characterized by a profile rich in skeletons, and affected by agronomic practices throughout its depth.

Tasting notes
It shows a straw yellow color with golden reflections.
Elegance reigns with this wine: high acidity that contrasts with the dense concentration of fruit. On the nose, notes of white peaches and apple are present, completing the sip with typical minerality and a long finish.

Tremenalto

Vintage: 2020

The vineyard is located in Moscatello, on a west-facing slope with a total surface area of about 2 hectares. Altitudes range between 80 and 130 meters above sea level, with a steep slope.

In the Tremenalto vineyard, three different types of soil with diverse characteristics have been identified, revealing a substrate composed of altered basaltic volcanites.

Tasting notes:
It presents a straw yellow color with golden reflections.
On the nose, there is a rich concentration of fruits, characteristics of ripe yellow pulp fruit that contrast with the accentuated minerality and the length of the sip.
Depth, tension, and exuberance that close in a long almond aftertaste.

The future of Soave wine

Geological research has revealed that the soils of the Fittà, Castellaro, and Tremenalto vineyards share a common specificity given by the nature of the parent materials, which also highlight characteristics of high pedodiversity. They teach us that speaking of “volcanic soil” in a generic manner is impossible given the great variety of its expressions even within the same area.

The tasting notes take us on a unique sensory journey.

From the fresh citrus aromas of Fittà to the elegant minerality of Castellaro, and the exuberant richness of Tremenalto, each sip is an unforgettable experience.

In conclusion, “I Luoghi” by Suavia teaches us that the territory of Soave is much more than just volcanic soil. It is a mosaic of nuances and diversity, reflected in wines that are extraordinarily complex and fascinating.

On this International Women’s Day, let’s raise our glasses to celebrate the excellence of Soave and Suavia’s tireless passion in preserving and valorizing its unique heritage.

Cheers and happy tasting!
