The wines of Piedmont
Italian wines from Piedmont have tradition since Roman times, with a current production of around 2,490,000hl in red Italian wines today.
The vineyards here are grown in hills. This is a wonderful advantage, avoiding parasite attack and the climate is ideal for healthy growth of the vines.
Another advantage of this region is the genuine passion of the winemakers, who make this place a perfect cradle for wines of worldwide repercussion.
The hills favor the formation of “nebbia” (fog), the haze that gives the name to the grape Nebbiolo native of this territory.
The Nebbiolo wine
Fine and subtle acids, deep bluish color, world sensitive to any variation of climate and terrain. Father of Barolo and Barbaresco.
Great Italian wines from Piemonte: They are called Barbaresco and Barolo
The Italian wines of Piemonte are known worldwide for their great character.
World famous, Barolo and Barbaresco are two of only 5 red wines with the top level of DOCG designation
And it is the cradle of delicacies like the white truffles, the bagna calda ( a typical meal of the region ) , oil of very precious olives and ossobuco.
The most produced Italian Piemonte wine is the famous Barbera, which covers 1/3 of the cultivated region.
It is an Italian wine piemontese, very pleasant and easy to interpret. It has intense colors, presents a bouquet of fruit perfumes and a little spice that renders it more interesting.
Its tannins are very well present, and it has a touch of unforgiving acidity.
In Italy, the production areas of this wonderful piemontese wine is from the town of Monteferrato where the grape is of native origin.
In the area of Asti is produced the wonderful DOCG Barbera d’Asti and in the area of Langhe has the Barbera D’Alba in DOC version.
One man who has done more than any other to claim Barbaresco is Angelo Gaja, who produces a far from economical variety of wines here. This is because they are particular, intensely spiced and it’s a wine that benefit from the legislation that allows them to enter in bottle after a year, instead of the two like barolo.
The Barolo
The king of wines and the king’s wine, is produced in two ways:
- In a traditional way, made with the aging in great barrels
- Others prefer that the process be done in small barrels, to soften the tannins in a short time.
Wine of Piedmont: White?
Here some white wines are presented very well, in main the white moscato.
The moscato is classified as another DOCG
The white Moscato can not be underestimated: it accounts for 1 \ 3 of all domestic sparkling production and half is exported.
Sparkling wines are obtained from bottle and autoclave reference. We can not forget to mention Vermouth and Barolo Chinato.
